We are building the SCHOOL/ Estamos construyendo la ESCUELA!!

Posted By admin on 15 June 2010

Hello friends NY/Anantapur:

It’s been a while since the latest news about our NY/Anantapur project, but the wait has been worthwhile, because we have BIG news to share with you.

Our efforts have been rewarded and, thanks to your donations and support, we managed to raise $17,000, which greatly outnumbered the goal we set for ourselves.

Therefore, the funds will be financing two major causes rather than one. Besides the construction of a school, your contributions will help fund a program for people with HIV / AIDS.

Here are some additional details on the two projects:

1 – The school / community center will be built in the village Pedda Yellampalli in the Nallacheruvu area (115 km from Anantapur). The school will be attended by 47 primary school children (25 boys and 22 girls) and 29 secondary school children (13 boys and 16 girls).

This school building / community center functions as a supplementary school. Children go to the local government school during regular hours and before and after school, supplementary school offers additional support to students of first and second generations who have no family support at home.

The building is also a community center located in the main part of town. Normally, Dalit and Tribal colonies have no public centers. Therefore, this community center is the hub of many activities and social gatherings in the village. This is an important presence that will benefit hundreds of people.

Construction of the school building funded by NY/Anantapur will begin in June and will probably be completed by the end of February 2011!

2 – The rest of the funds raised will be used to buy antiviral drugs for HIV patients.

We are attaching the official letter from the Vicente Ferrer Foundation in India. We will keep you informed of the progress in the construction of the school.

Again, thank you very much for making our dreams possible and, above all, for reaching out to so many people in India.

Hugs,

José Carlos Casado

Hello from NY/Anantapur Web HQ

Posted By admin on 12 May 2009

This is Stacey at Coeurméchante, NY/Anantapur’s resident web developer.  I took on this project because, as we all know, starting a fundraising operation is an easy task. And people like artists and website developers, you know, we have loads of free time to spend, and not much else to do.

Of course, I’m a trifle facetious when it comes to things like self-promotion.  The dull fact is: the NY/Anantapur project has taken months to put together. But our team of passionate New Yorkers, led by the artist José Carlos Casado, is finally ready to open our doors. And the short of it is, we took on this project because the world is insane in more ways than we can count, and when people like José Carlos take steps to change it, it inspires others to help change the world in the ways we can.  I can help this way, by creating a website for you to view the photos, donate to the cause, or just keep up with what we’re up to.

I hope you’re as inspired as I’ve been, and find your own way to help.  Feel free to get in touch in the comments of this blog, or send an email to info@nyanantapur.org with any ideas or suggestions, and check back often for updates on our progress and our journeys.  Happy trails and namasté.
